This holiday weekend was spent strollin’ around the hood. It got a wee bit old by Monday but overall it felt nice to slow things down and just spend time as a family.

Above pic was after a little brunch at Ted and Honey. Baby girl got a little fussy from sitting in her stroller for too long. Jonathan insisted he take a pic of me ‘cause he thought I looked cute. *awwwe* thanks J. I don’t even think to blog about clothes anymore. My head is not there.

I feel a little bad because this red romper is made out of a scratchy material and her poor little baby skin couldn’t of liked it too much. BUT the reason it is so great right now is that I have sooo little time in the morning to give two cents about what I’m wearing. Which shirt goes with which shorts? No time to think about it. A romper comes with a built in top and bottom. Once summer is over (now) I’m not sure what I’m going to do. My closet looks like a bomb went off with remnants of maternity, winter clothes I never put away shoved in corners, summer clothes that aren’t going to make it on my body this year… I’m going to need to ask J to watch the baby for an entire day just for me to sort through it all.

Anyway, I have enjoyed this romper. It was on sale at Urban Outfitters and I have got A LOT of use out of it.

Ok, I’ll be back again soon. Right now I’m more focused on my house that is a complete disaster filled with baby things that still don’t have a nice neat home tucked away from the center of our family room.

Back in Bloomers. Baby is 2 1/2 weeks old. Btw, I totally get why parents speak in weeks. Will I always speak in weeks? That annoys me. Hmm.
Anyway, aside from the discomfort of my c-section incision, my Bloomers from American Apparel are fitting. I love them. I know they are stupid looking. Looks like me and baby are both wearing diapers! Xo.

spending most of my time singing somewhere over the rainbow to her and then trying to catch some z’s.

sleeping when baby sleeps = impossible. i’d like to meet one mom who has done it successfully. below is 10pm, doesn’t count. everyone is sleeping around here by then.

p.s. i never wear makeup anymore and i’m in pj’s almost all day. H O T.

i have had a lot of back and forth going on in my head on whether or not to post the above picture. i hate it. i look tired, big, not comfortable. but it’s the honest truth. i have one week left, or so they say, and i’m looking forward to this being the last week.

i’m not going to post anymore until after the baby is here. jonathan is mad saying, “but you are working from home, you’ll have time. it’s like you’re giving up in the 9th inning!” truth is, i recognize this could be the last week where it is just me, myself and i. i want to sit and be quiet, take walks, naps, watch trash tv, read etc. i don’t want to do anything i don’t have to do or should do. soon my life will be filled with that. so thanks for reading this blog during my pregnancy. i will be back.

please pray to whatever God you believe in, jesus, buddha, jimmy buffet, or a ray of sunshine that i have a safe delivery to a very healthy baby. thanks.

Above is a picture of my Grandmother, Madeline. Not the blonde in the middle but the brunette beauty stepping into the scene to the left.

It’s the reason I love this photo so much.

This moment was a very special time in my Grandmother’s life. She was asked to join a well-to-do friend on a cruise ship to Italy. I love that this wasn’t the norm for my Grandmother and my family. I love to imagine my very hardworking Grandfather at home kissing her on the cheek before she left, her bags packed with new clothes she bought special for herself. You see, my Grandmother was very a fashionable woman. Anyone will tell you that. But at the core, she was a loving housewife who raised 4 wonderful children. She did all the cooking and the cleaning. She was fantastic at it all.

Despite the fact that she always looked so put together, my favorite memory is of her cooking us Pizelles early in the morning, sliding across the kitchen floor in slippers and her worn-in robe. I love that in the photo you can see that perhaps she feels a little out of place on this fancy ship. Maybe only 24 hours earlier she was brushing a knot out of my Mom’s hair or making sure all the golf tees were taken out of my Grandfather’s pockets before she threw them in the wash. Her head is down, she looks a little shy, little did she know she was the most gorgeous thing in the room. Both because her outfit is perfectly put together and because of her modesty. I hope that moments after this photo was taken she let out one of her big explosive laughs. They were amazing to hear and I have luckily inherited the trait.

We plan to name our baby after her.

Living in this time, sometimes it’s hard to believe in heaven. It’s easier to believe in science. More important than all that is my hope. The dream that there is in fact a heaven where my beautiful Grandmother is waiting. She definitely deserves to be seen again.

hey.

this week is a little depressing. i’m in advertising and this week is the international ad fest / competition in cannes.

it happens every year. and for most of us, it is a week filled with anxiety about how your ads might do in the competition only to find out that they got nothing. me and my partner have had some ads shortlist so far (a glimmer of hope!) followed by a big crash when they didn’t pick up any medal.

this all sounds pathetic, sorta “get a life”, it’s only a job and they are only ads. but it’s what we care about. it’s nice to know that people enjoyed and want to recognize your hard work.

let me now prove a need a life even further. i have just spent the last 10 minutes playing make believe. i recently saw a spread in a magazine with a model wearing the color “st germain”. she was wearing it with heavy black eyeliner. it was so throwback looking. it reminded me of how glamorous women used to dress. it reminded me of cannes… sigh.

so i went out and tried on the lipstick color.

st germain on an italian girl looks absolutely AWFUL. i walked away with some colors that are almost just as bad because i couldn’t help myself. they are “satin” and “pink nouveau”. i came home and put them on, but not before teasing my hair and putting it up in a french twist.

fyi pregnant women. a french twist is actually not that hard to do. and if you like the way it looks, it’s a great way to keep get your hair off your back in this humid summer weather. i use big bobby pins. not the sticks they recommend using in the really old illustration below.

and here are the colors. you see what i mean? they don’t seem to quite work on me.

anyway - that was my afternoon. sorta pathetic. i don’t think i’d make a good stay at home mom. these self indulgent episodes are kinda freakin’ me out.

important to note - last days of pregnancy not easy. not really into caring about what i’m wearing because nothing feels all that good on.

today i wore some jean shorts that i was certain i would return and not need to wear at all before the baby comes. but it’s so warm out and i had no dresses to throw on. i mean i do, but i’m sick of them. so i grabbed these. they are from the GAP. ooo and they are on sale right now fyi. i like them but i will say that the way they are cut and they fabric they use, they feel a little baggy towards the end of the day. maybe a few times in the drier could help that. i’ve also got on a linen shirt from american apparel that i bought last year. normally i would but a belt around it or tie it in a knot at the bottom but not right now. it’s so loose fitting that it’s working well in these late stages of pregnancy. i found a similar one here. i’m not sure about $45 though.

in other news my feet do not look like my feet. they are huge. and my right calf has a permanent charlie horse today. waaaah.

this weekend

this weekend was a crafts weekend. i’ve been really really torn on what to do with our nursery. while jonathan envisions baby animals and pastels everywhere, there is nothing i want less than your typical nursery. i understand that a baby needs color and shapes and sounds and all those good things to stimulate their brain. i will give her that. but i don’t know why it’s necessary to fill her room with pastels and fluffy animals everywhere. i don’t think she’ll care. what i want, and hopefully what she wants too, is just a nice room.

that said, i’m not claiming to have this all figured out. i have two “themes”, for lack of a better word, in my head.

1) to believe in things. this theme is pretty positive and open ended. and it’s the reason i have a hand made stuffed unicorn head 90% waiting for eyes and to be hung in the room.

2) a little lady. the reason i went here is because we are naming her madelyn after my grandma who was a true lady in every sense of the word. their house was beautiful, her clothes and jewelery were all beautiful too. they bought their home in the 50’s and up until about 7 years ago or so, there was still a lot of their old gold flocked wall paper on the walls, original tile etc. so i’m taking a lot of inspiration from my memories of her.

enter this wallpaper or fabric or something that i found online last week.

it’s got a certain level of nostalgia to me, i can’t place my finger on it. i went to mood fabric to find something similar. i found something, but it needed work. it was too pastel and not enough flowers. so mom suggested we grab some fabric paints and get stamping.

and then after mom spent an entire day hemming the edges and creating a little pocket at the top to stick a curtain rod through — we hung it behind the crib.

i still think that maybe we could stand to add a few more colors. maybe. another possibility is to make it curtains because j isn’t sold on the wall hanging thing. but overall, it gives me the feeling that i wanted it to. will keep you posted.

i struggle with the concept. i mean, why need a gift for something that your body was born to do? something you decided to do together? i’m not doing anyone a favor here.

but then, who doesn’t like to get presents?

so, i imagine if i were to find a push present out there and drop a hint to jonathan, it should be something that is timeless and classic… none of which are the words to describe my current obsession - an over-sized gold ring of an indian chief’s head. i saw it at henri bendel and can’t find it anywhere on their site. it was awesome. breathtaking!

saturday night after our day trip, we went to dinner with some pals. our friends, mary and will are getting married next weekend. traditionally, within our little group, we take the bride out for a “last night of freedom” in the city. but this time we changed it up, made it a gathering for both the boys and the girls at Alma here in brooklyn. delish! winning dish for the night was the steak fajitas. you must get them.

i wore a shirt that used to fit as a dress. it’s got tons of ruffles so my belly button wasn’t sticking straight out. i appreciate that. also sporting my favorite cardigan of all time from Madewell and my fave maternity jeans. it’s as good as it’s going to get at this stage in the game.

we started the night at the bar downstairs from Alma. can’t remember the name. but it’s great.

then we headed upstairs to eat. posting this pic because it’s a great one of meg and gina. laughs all around.

day trip escape

this saturday j and i took a little trip up the hudson to cold spring, ny. we woke up to clouds and some showers but decided that it was important to get out there and do something different other than baby errands etc.

upon arrival, we quickly realized this place’s website was as upfront as it possibly could be about what it offers - antiques. i thought surely there would be some variety in stores. no. antiques. luckily for cold spring, i enjoy rummaging. didn’t find anything though. so, we walked down towards the river.

although we made an effort to try to get away from all the baby talk, it was pretty fun to imagine taking our own kids to a place like this. these kids were so cute, talking to the ducks was all they needed to make their day complete.

we ended our trip with with a delicious lunch on the river and some yummy local ice cream.

oh yeah, and i wore…

a maternity tank from target, those shoes from aerosoles, a jean jacket that i wear all the time now because i hate what my arms are doing AND new pants. i picked these up at the Gap. they were on sale. i love the color the fit and the little zipper pockets. btw, they are 29.99 in the store and 39.99 online. totally worth the trip to the store if you are in the market for some new summer pants.
